The Junior Varsity came together during the June of 2002. All the members had played in bands for years and decided to attempt to make some music together. Andy Wildrick, who assumes the guitar duties, and Tony Peck, drummer, used to play together in the band Winner Takes All. The bass player from Winner Takes All, Gabe Looker, now plays with the Lobster Records band Park. Noah Wenger had previously played in the band Story For Milo and founding bass player David Bradbury, stuck to playing in jazz bands. All the members decided this project would be for fun during the summer and in the fall everyone would go off to school or off to work and pursue other things. However, The Junior Varsity got much better than they had originally planned to. In July, they decided to add Nick Dodson on the saxophone and keys to bring some diversity to the band and to try something many other bands of this genre had not tried before. In August, the bands future was unknown because of everyones college plans but they decided to keep the project going by replacing founding bass player David Bradury with Sergio Coronado, on guitar, so that David could attend school in Florida. Noah would cover the bass duties and retain his position as vocalist. The band kept in this form for a few months, then after some conflicts with lifestyle and schedules they were forced to find a new vocalist and bass player. The band finally decided on Asa Dawson, who had also not only been playing bass and singing in a number of bands, but was the vocalist from the band Winner Takes All. In February of 2003, the day the space shuttle Columbia disintegrated in the earths atmosphere, after a show and a conversation in the van, the band signed a record contract with British Records. This brings us up to present speed on The Junior Varsity and its new relationship founded in British Records. Right now, and most definitely forever, we plan to tour and play every show we possibly can in any imaginable venue.
